What is PAT Testing (Portable appliance testing)
PAT testing also referred to as portable appliance testing, has been around since the late 1990s. It is a process by which electrical appliances in workplaces are routinely checked and inspected for safety purposes. It is widely used in the UK, Australia and Ireland and plays a vital role, especially for insurance purposes.apollo-600-pat-tester-hands
It is unthinkable to ignore the importance of portable appliance testing. We find many issues each time units get tested in companies. Such problems range from homemade and incorrect fuses to cracked plugs which are recklessly wired by incompetent people. Some tests reveal burnt out sockets and plugs, all of which can potentially cause a fire.
How Long Does It Take?
Each portable appliance test task should take a few minutes per workstation. In most cases, the amount of time will depend on access to units that have to undergo pat testing. It will also depend on how complicated or sophisticated the units are.
What Do You Check?
We carry out a full visual inspection and electrical tests using specialised equipment. Our test equipment can detect dangerous faults with your equipment before they cause an electrical shock or fire. Some of the tests we carry out are:
Looking for damaged cables
Looking for damage to the plug and casing
Looking for an incorrectly wired plug
The incorrect fuse for a given item
Earth Bond Testing
Insulation Resistance
Cable Polarity Testing
Earth Leakage Check
Load Testing
Touch Leakage Testing
Once we have completed our tests, all passed items will receive a green sticker. We will also log the item onto our testing equipment which will provide you will a full printout and certificate for your records.
